“Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.” ― Terry Goodkind

Is a sabre a short sword?

A sabre is not typically considered a short sword, but rather a specific type of curved sword with a distinct design and purpose. While both sabres and swords are bladed weapons, they have notable differences.

A sabre is characterized by its curved blade, single cutting edge, and often a slight bend near the tip. It typically has a longer blade than a short sword, ranging from around 30 inches (76 cm) to over 40 inches (102 cm) in length. Sabres were historically used by cavalry troops, offering them an effective weapon for slashing and cutting attacks from horseback.

On the other hand, a short sword is generally considered a one-handed weapon with a straight or slightly curved blade, a length shorter than a standard sword, and a single or double-edged blade. Short swords vary in design and purpose, but they are typically versatile weapons used for thrusting, cutting, and close-quarters combat.

While the classification of swords can be complex and vary across cultures and historical periods, the sabre and short sword are generally distinct types of weapons with unique characteristics and purposes.
