“Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.” ― Terry Goodkind

What is a ninja weapon?

Ninjas, historically known as shinobi, were covert agents in feudal Japan who specialized in espionage, sabotage, and guerrilla warfare. They employed various weapons and tools to aid them in their missions, with an emphasis on stealth, deception, and versatility. While ninjas were skilled in a wide range of weapons, some commonly associated with them include:

  1. Shuriken: Shuriken, also known as throwing stars or ninja stars, were small, handheld weapons with multiple pointed blades. Ninjas would throw them at their enemies as a distraction, to disable or injure opponents, or to create diversions during escapes.
  2. Ninjato: The ninjato, also called a ninja sword, is a straight-bladed sword associated with ninjas. It was shorter than a traditional katana and had a straighter edge, providing greater maneuverability in close-quarters combat.
  3. Kunai: Kunai were versatile tools that could serve as both a utility knife and a close-range weapon. They had a pointed, often leaf-shaped blade and were commonly used for tasks such as scaling walls, prying open doors, or as a stabbing weapon when necessary.
  4. Kusarigama: The kusarigama consisted of a sickle attached to a chain with a weighted metal ball at the end. Ninjas could use the sickle for slashing or hooking opponents, while the chain and weight allowed for entangling or striking from a distance.
  5. Kyoketsu-shoge: The kyoketsu-shoge featured a double-edged blade attached to a rope or chain, which was connected to a metal ring. It was a versatile weapon that could be used for slashing, striking, or entangling an opponent's weapon.
  6. Fukiya: The fukiya was a blowgun used for firing small darts called "Fukiya needles." Ninjas could silently shoot these needles at enemies, often tipped with poison to incapacitate or kill their targets.
  7. Tekko-Kagi: Tekko-Kagi were claw-like hand weapons with sharp metal blades. Ninjas used them for climbing, scaling walls, or as close-quarter defensive weapons to parry or rake against an opponent's attacks.

It's worth noting that while these weapons are commonly associated with ninjas, the actual historical use of specific weapons by shinobi is not always well-documented. Ninjas were known for their adaptability and resourcefulness, and they would often make use of everyday objects as improvised weapons or tools to suit their needs.
