“Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.” ― Terry Goodkind

What is the largest sword?

The largest sword ever created, known as the Great Sword or Zweihänder, is an enormous two-handed sword originating in Europe during the late medieval and Renaissance periods. The Great Sword was primarily used by German landsknecht mercenaries and other heavy infantry units.

The exact dimensions of the Great Sword varied, but on average, it had a blade length of approximately 150 to 180 centimeters (59 to 71 inches) and weighed between 2 and 3.5 kilograms (4.4 to 7.7 pounds). The length of the weapon allowed for long-range strikes and the ability to target multiple opponents simultaneously.

The Great Sword's large size and weight required it to be wielded with both hands, providing significant reach and power. It was typically used in formation-based combat or during sieges, where its sweeping strikes and piercing ability could be maximized.

Today, surviving examples of the Great Sword can be found in museums and historical collections, showcasing the impressive size and craftsmanship of this massive weapon.
