“Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.” ― Terry Goodkind

Can I carry a sword in Texas?

Texas law allows the open carry of swords and other bladed weapons. This was a result of House Bill 1935, passed in 2017, which repealed the ban on carrying knives with blades longer than 5.5 inches.

This means that, in most public places in Texas, it is legal to carry swords, daggers, dirks, stilettos, poniards, Bowie knives, spears, and other bladed weapons.

However, there are exceptions. Certain "location-restricted" places are off-limits for carrying these weapons, including bars and restaurants that derive 51% or more of their income from the sale or service of alcoholic beverages, schools and universities, polling places, secured areas of airports, race tracks, sporting events, correctional facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, amusement parks, and places of worship.

Also, despite the state law, there may be local ordinances or rules that apply, so it's always best to check for the most current information in your specific area.

Remember, just because it's legal to carry a weapon does not mean it's always a good idea to do so. Swords can be dangerous if not handled properly, and carrying one in public can be seen as threatening by others, potentially leading to unnecessary confrontations or encounters with law enforcement.
