“Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.” ― Terry Goodkind

What is a Zatoichi style Katana?

A Zatoichi-style katana refers to the sword style popularized by the fictional character Zatoichi, who is the protagonist of a series of Japanese films. Zatoichi, also known as the Blind Swordsman, is often depicted with a unique sword known as a shikomizue.

A shikomizue is a type of sword traditionally associated with the blind and often disguised as a cane or walking stick, hence the term "cane sword." This allowed the bearer to carry a weapon without drawing attention. The blade within is typically straight, somewhat similar to a ninjato or wakizashi in length and shape, although this can vary.

In the context of Zatoichi, his sword is disguised as a blind man's cane, and he only reveals the blade when necessary for combat. This has led to the term "Zatoichi-style katana" sometimes being used to refer to cane swords similar to the one used by the character.

However, it's important to note that a Zatoichi-style katana or sword isn't a traditionally recognized type of Japanese sword in the same way as the katana, wakizashi, or tachi. It is more of a pop culture reference than a historical or traditional term.
